The story chronicles the life of David Shainberg a US citizen from Memphis Tennessee, who sailed to Hebron in Palestine in 1928. He went there to study as a Yeshiva student to fulfill his dream of studying the Talmud in the Holy Land. This dream of David’s was shattered when Muslim men massacred men, women, and children on August 24, 1929, in the Jewish quarter of Hebron.
